Thai Airways International has confirmed that five key executives have been removed from their positions and appointed as advisors to the airline's acting president, ACM Siwakat Jayema.
Chokchai Panyayong was formerly the executive vice-president for corporate strategy and sustainable development, and the airline’s acting president until 30 June, before being replaced by Jayema. The airline has also confirmed that he will retire on 30 September.
Besides Panyayong, executive vice-president commercial Teerapol Chotichanapibal, executive vice-president of aviation business Pandit Chanapai, executive vice-president for human resources Niruj Maneepun, and executive vice-president for corporate ancillary revenue Danuj Bunnag will now advise the acting president on governance, service and legal affairs. Chotichanapibal and Chanapai will also strategise on ways to boost revenue and revitalise the struggling carrier.
The changes was made by the carrier’s board of directors at an extraordinary meeting held on 24 July, the airline says.
The airline has named four internal successors as acting executive vice-presidents. Bunnag's previous position will not be replaced.
Executive vice-president for Thai Technical, Flt Lt Montree Jumrieng will replace Panyayong. The vice-president for personnel development and training, Flt Lt Kanok Tongpurk, will take on Maneepun’s role, with an additional charge of heading the compliance department.
Managing director for Thai Catering, Fg Off Suraphon Israngura Na Ayuthya, will succeed Chotichanapibal, while managing director for ground equipment services sub-lieutenant Anussorn Naksrichum will succeed Chanapai, the airline adds.
Five board members, including former chairman Ampon Kittiampon, resigned from the carrier in June. The resignations came after chairman Prajin Juntong chose to stay on in the position, despite a previous announcement that he would resign. Juntong, who took over as chairman in March, is also the country’s air force commander.
