Thai Airways International plans to improve service, raise efficiency and push for more interline traffic from its Star Alliance partners to prepare the ground for partial privatisation, possibly before the year-end.
Impetus for the improvements also comes from the government, which is unimpressed with Thai's performance.
The airline also intends to rationalise the number of aircraft and engine types it operates. Retirement of its 747-300s, MD-11s and A300-600s will go ahead over the next two or three years, though some may be converted into freighters.
In-flight entertainment and seating will be improved on long-haul flights.
