Private carriers Air Andaman and PB Air look set to take over many of Thai Airways International's domestic feeder routes in October.

Air Andaman expects to step in the south and north of Thailand following a meeting on 19 June between Thai, other domestic airlines and travel industry representatives.

According to Air Andaman sales and marketing VP Pratheep Boonprasom, the airline will be given ten routes. Six or seven will be handed over in October, the remainder in December or January.

The carrier will decide by end-June on purchase-leases for five aircraft, either ATR 72s, Bombardier de Havilland Dash 8s or Fokker F27s, F28s or F50s. They chosen aircraft would be bought for a relatively small sum at the end of the lease term.

Thai will relinquish five routes in the north and northeast to PB Air, says Pratheep.
