The Royal Thai Air Force has commissioned the first four Korea Aerospace Industries T-50TH advanced jet trainers.

The commissioning ceremony took place on 4 April at Thai air force base, says KAI in a statement.

The four aircraft were originally ordered in 2015, with a follow on order for eight additional examples placed in 2017. These will be delivered in 2020.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that there are 182 T-50 and variants in-service globally, with 28 on order.

The Republic of Korea Air Force is the largest operator, with 145 examples. Other operators include Indonesia (15), Iraq (six), and the Philippines (12).

The T-50 also forms the basis of Lockheed Martin’s bid in the US T-X competition to replace the Northrop T-38.
