Crew-related wireless applications and in-cabin satellite television broadcasting to seatback screens are Thales's new target markets for its wireless in-flight entertainment technology.

Following the decision by Boeing to drop wireless IFE from its 787, Thales is redirecting some of its work to develop the technology for other purposes.

Thales worked for three years with Boeing to deliver a wireless system, and is using that experience to develop wireless terminals and communication headsets for crew use.

Current chipset technology can provide a wireless video service for non-interactive functions, but has limitations in using the same frequencies for multiple uses and in keeping up with predicted growth in entertainment content volume.
