The civil aviation industry has been told to put its house in order when communicating about the environment.
The stark message was from Anthony Concil, director of corporate communications of industry body IATA. Speaking at the Congress, Concil says IATA has a vision for the industry to work together to first become carbon neutral and in the longer-term, have zero emissions.
“We recognise that aviation has an environmental impact and is a part of the problem. Aviation is also determined to be a part of the solution – and we are committed to doing everything we can to limit aviation’s impact on the environment. However, we cannot alone stop global warming as we are only 2% of global emissions. That is the story we must get across.”
Concil says delegates should look to IATA’s environment website, www.enviro.aero to learn how to communicate effectively about aviation’s impact on the environment and find out how the industry can tackle the issue sensibly.
