Directions Finningley is at Farnborough to announce the launch of its aviation engineering apprenticeship for the new Robin Hood airport development in South Yorkshire.

The apprenticeship will provide a world-class local skills base to support the airport, the former RAF Finningley base which is being transformed into a major commercial airport with flights beginning in March 2005.

A line maintenance scheme involving 12 young people will start in September.

They will train to be line maintenance mechanics in readiness for the start of commercial operations at the airport.

Directions Finningley is a local partnership created to deliver all recruitment, career guidance, training and business support requirements at Robin Hood and any associated developments or businesses. It is represented in the Aerospace Wales forum (Hall 4, E6)
