Russian carrier Transaero has secured European approval for C-check maintenance work on a range of Boeing 737 types at Moscow Vnukovo.
It has been cleared by the European Aviation Safety Agency to service older-variant 737s, as well as current-generation models from the -600 upwards, the company states.
“Performing independent heavy maintenance on the airline’s own base will significantly reduce some airline’s expenditures in foreign currency,” says Transaero technical department head Mikhail Korobovich.
He estimates the potential savings at $15 million annually. The first aircraft for C-check work, a Transaero 737-500, arrived at its technical centre on 2 June.
“Despite the economic headwinds and the on-going cost-reduction programme, the company was able to retain highly-qualified personnel and expand its technical competences,” says Korobovich.
