Transaero has taken delivery of its first Tupolev Tu-214 from Kazan Aviation Production Organisation. The ceremony on 23 April was attended by United Aircraft president Aleksei Fedorov.
"It's a very important event, that a privately owned Russian airline that has so far operated an all-Boeing fleet has acquired a modern Russian jet," he said. The Tu-214 - the first of 10 ordered by Transaero - will be used for scheduled passenger flights from mid-May, initially between Moscow and Dubai, says Olga Pleshakova, Transaero general director.
Meanwhile, Siberian carrier S7 has ordered 10 Boeing 737-800s for its newly created charter unit.
