Lockheed Martin has delivered its first C-130J tactical transport to the Tunisian air force, with the transfer having taken place on 4 April.

Stretched-fuselage aircraft Z21121 is the first new-generation Hercules to have been delivered to an African nation, and will be followed by a second example for Tunisia during 2014.

Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets database records the Tunisian air force as already operating an aged fleet of seven C-130Bs, introduced between 1959 and 1961, and one H-model Hercules, which entered use in 1985.

Tunisia signed a production contract with Lockheed for its new aircraft in February 2010. The company is also to deliver an initial three-year package of training and logistics support services under the deal.
