Turkey is upgrading its British Aerospace Rapier short-range surface-to-air missiles to "B1X" standard, to extend their operational life into the next century. The £70 million ($105 million), three-year, contract has been awarded to BAe's Defence Dynamics division, which will perform the work at its Stevenage, UK, site. The upgrade involves the introduction of digital technology, and the modification of launchers, radar trackers and spares. A similar upgrade has been undertaken for Singapore.
