The US Navy says that two Raytheon Block III Tomahawk land attack missiles (TLAMs) failed operational flight tests conducted off California on 14 August.

In the first of two tests from a USN warship, the naval cruise missile's telemetry system failed to activate, requiring chase aircraft to take control of the weapon and fly it for splashdown and recovery. A second TLAM flew for only 26s before descending. An investigation is under way.
