United Arab Emirates start-up carrier RAK Airways is delaying its launch after the sudden departure of chief executive Jack Romero.

Former Airports Authority of India board member Kishu Teckchandani took over at the helm of the start-up, based in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, in early March. RAK had just secured its air operator's certificate and was aiming to launch Boeing 757 services to India and Iran in April. But the unexpected management change has cast uncertainty over the plan, with indications flights will start further towards the summer.

There is also evidence of amendments to its business plan. RAK's internet site shows a new golden tower logo rather than the Arabic script-based scheme painted on the airline's first aircraft. Romero, during his one-year stint at RAK, had thrown out its original low-fares model in favour of a full-service offering. Romero says he chose to step down after failing to reach an agreement on extending his term.
