The UK Civil Aviation Authority has just presented its first Safety Award for general aviation to Stephen Linstead (right), a student pilot who suffered an engine failure on his first solo flight. Presenting the award, CAA managing director Tom Murphy said that Linstead "…conducted himself in a laudable manner and displayed coolness and determination under extreme pressure." The engine failure in Linstead's Piper Warrior occurred on base leg in the circuit at Denham airfield.
