Privatisation of the UK's National Air Traffic Services (NATS)should not take place until the New En Route Centre (NERC) is fully operational, the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee has recommended. NATS says NERC will be on line in 2002.
The committee says the government's plan to run NATS on a "public/private partnership" should include clauses limiting NATS investment in new ventures to reduce the risk that any such venture should render it bankrupt, "-as [NATS] could not quickly be replaced".
