The European Commission has approved a merger of Thomas Cook Holidays and British Airways Holidays to create one of the UK's leading scheduled tour operating companies. The two organisations will bring complementary strengths to the 50/50 joint venture. Thomas Cook's longhaul strengths are in Egypt, Canada and the USA, whereas those of British Airways Holidays lie in the Caribbean, Florida and the Far East. In the shorthaul sector, Thomas Cook Holidays is a major player in the European city breaks marketplace and has high performing programmes to Paris, the Channel Islands and Ireland.

BA has an extensive city breaks programme covering Europe and the Middle East and is the UK¹s leading operator for golf holidays.
