A Trans States Airlines Embraer ERJ-145LR suffered an uncontained engine failure en route from St Louis, Missouri to Denver, Colorado, writes Darren Shannon.

The ERJ's number one Rolls-Royce AE3007A1-2 powerplant failed during cruise over Kansas City, Missouri, on 19 May, while the aircraft (N814HK) was operating an American Connection flight.

The aircraft returned to St Louis and landed safely, says Trans States. A US National Transportation Safety Board report says none of the 49 passengers and two crew was injured, and the damage was minor. The aircraft was returned to service following the replacement of the engine, but information on the cause of the incident has not yet been published. Trans States leases 10 ERJ-145LRs from American Eagle for its American Connection services.
