Management at US Airways says it has financing for 20 of 25 aircraft deliveries scheduled for 2009, and is in talks with airframer Airbus regarding five A330-200s.
Twenty of the aircraft being delivered this year are largely A321s, carrier CFO Derek Kerr told analysts today during an investor call.
He explains US Airways wants to take the -200s as the carrier needs that aircraft for its new Philadelphia-Tel Aviv flights scheduled to start in July. In the past during this type of environment Airbus has been enormously creative with financing, Kerr says.
One option for the A330s is to take backstop financing in place that is currently pegged for aircraft deliveries in 2010-2011.
