US combat command created

A new US combat command is being created with responsibility for homeland defence. US Northern Command, which will stand up at Peterson AFB, Colorado, from 1 October, will be responsible for operations in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean, including support of civil authorities. US Europe Command will assume responsibility for Russia - helped by US Pacific Command, which will also add Antarctica to its area of operations. Relieved of its geographic responsibility, US Joint Forces Command will focus on transformation of the US military.
