El Al is coming under increasing political pressure from the USA to rethink its selection of the Airbus A330, and re-evaluate the Boeing alternative.

Last month El Al decided to split its medium capacity fleet order between Boeing and Airbus, ordering three Boeing 777-200ERs and announcing plans to buy up to four A330-200s.

Boeing had proposed the 767-400ERX as an alternative to the Airbus twinjet.

Most pressure is being applied by US senators who have written to Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak claiming that the 767-400ERX offer was not given a full and proper evaluation by El Al.

El Al's board will meet before the end of November to discuss the airline's ability to finance the purchase of the seven aircraft.
