Brazil's beleaguered airline VASP has cut half its routes and laid off 40% of its flightcrews in an effort to avert a growing crisis. Cash-hungry because the government airport operator Infraero will no longer extend credit for landing fees, VASP has slashed fares on the popular Rio-São Paulo shuttle. A São Paulo hotel is the latest creditor to call for the airline's liquidation.
