Ballistic Recovery Systems has released a video of one of its recent test drops as it says it is on track to complete its Next Generation Parachute System (NGPS) by year’s end.
The Minnesota-based company has been air dropping two varieties of the quarter-sphere parachute for testing, one designed to handle a 1,630 kg (3,600lb) aircraft and one for aircraft weighing as much as 2,500kg.
The video below shows a test drop of the 5500 parachute measuring 19.7m (65ft) in diameter, which is likely have Diamond Aircraft's single-engine D-Jet as its first application.
