Low-cost carrier VietJet Air has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lufthansa Technik that could lead to further co-operation between the two companies.
VietJet's chief executive Luu duc Khanh said in a statement that the MoU will "help VietJet Air meet the needs of the operation and rigorous maintenance of the fleet, ensuring the new flights of VietJet Air are always safe and in good maintenance status".
A spokesman for Lufthansa Technik tells Flightglobal Pro that the MoU will allow the two companies "to evaluate business opportunities in various technical support areas". However, the MRO company adds that the agreement is "not yet a contract".
VietJet has a fleet of eight Airbus A320s with three more on order, Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets database shows.
VietJet serves mostly domestic routes in Vietnam and flies internationally to Bangkok from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It also recently announced that it would establish a new joint venture in Thailand, due to commence operations in early 2014.
