Virgin Atlantic has completed its purchase of six A330-300s from Airbus after delays to the Boeing 787 programme prompted the carrier to find interim aircraft.
The carrier also has agreed to a sale and leaseback deal with AerCap covering the six purchased A330s. Those six aircraft are in addition to four A330s that Virgin Atlantic is leasing directly from AerCap. The four leased A330s are from a 30-aircraft order that AerCap placed with the airframer in 2006 and 2007.

Virgin Atlantic is scheduled to start deliveries A330s between 2011 and 2012, with the lease term of each aircraft lasting 12 years.
The airline selected Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines to power the forthcoming Airbus aircraft that will feature a three class configuration with a total of 270 seats.
