Virgin Atlantic has contracted McKechnie Aerospace Aftermarket Group (Hall 4, Stand F11) to supply support for the batteries on its fleet of Airbus A340s and Boeing 747-400s.

The deal, worth an estimated $250,000 year to the UK-based provider, covers spares, servicing and the supply of new main, emergency lighting and emergency exit batteries.

The batteries, which provide emergency aircraft power in the event of a failure of the engine-generated main supply, are scheduled for servicing every 1,500-2,000 flying hours, equal to once every four or five months in the Virgin fleet. After shipping to McKechnie's Heston facility near Heathrow, they will be inspected, tested, repaired as necessary and fully recharged.
