Australian airline group Virgin Blue has reported a 23% increase in passenger traffic for October, driven by growth in the international segment.
International RPKs increased 183% from a year ago, but domestic RPKs fell 5%. Overall RPKs grew 23%, says Virgin Blue.
The total number of passengers carried remained flat, falling 2% to 1.59 million from 1.62 million a year ago.
Total capacity, as measured by ASKs, increased 24% in October. International capacity was up 173% while domestic ASKs fell 5%.
Overall passenger load factor dropped 0.6 percentage points to 82.2% from 82.8%, adds the group.
The statistics exclude Polynesian Blue, says Virgin Blue. The group includes Virgin Blue, long-haul subsidiary V Australia and New Zealand-based Pacific Blue.
