The first commercial flight operated by the new privately-owned airline Virgin Nigeria will take off from its Lagos base for London on 28 June. Owned 51% by Nigerian institutional investors and 49% by Virgin Atlantic, the operation will begin with a 255-seat Airbus A340-300 transferred from Virgin, says Virgin Nigeria’s chief executive Simon Harford. He adds that announcements about further fleet acquisitions and the start of short-haul operations within Africa will be made soon.
