Aeronavali has subcontracted Boeing Airplane Services to convert a McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 from passenger to freighter configuration for Brussels-based Skyjet Airways. Boeing was contracted by Aeronavali as Skyjet required the aircraft sooner than the Italian company could undertake the work. The aircraft is due to arrive in early November at Boeing's Wichita, Kansas, modification centre, and will be redelivered to Skyjet next March. Lauda Air has contracted Lufthansa Technik (LHT) to overhaul the CFM International CFM56-7 engines powering its Boeing Next Generation 737s. The Austrian airline has two 737-800s in service, but is due to take delivery of another six 737NGs by March 2002. Meanwhile, LHT has begun performing a C-check on one of Lauda's 777-200s. The aircraft will have its in-flight entertainment system upgraded and will be fitted with an enhanced ground proximity warning system. The German maintenance provider has also been certificated as a qualified design organisation and authorised manufacturer by Europe's Joint Aviation Authorities. The approval means that LHT can obtain supplemental type certificates to carry out cabin completions or alterations and modifications to aircraft systems. Sabena Technics has won a five year contract from Axon Airlines, covering base maintenance, engine and components maintenance, engineering and consignment stock for the Greek carrier's new Boeing 737-700s. Sabena Technics has also signed a BFr40 million ($1.03 million) maintenance contract with another Greek airline, Galaxy, covering its Boeing 737-400s. Fairchild Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik Logistik are to set up a spare parts distribution centre in Europe for Fairchild and Dornier aircraft. Based at Frankfurt Airport, the centre will provide a quick response for spare parts requests from operators of Fairchild Dornier turboprop aircraft as well as Fairchild's new line of 32/105-seat jet airliners.
