Britannia Airways has contracted Lufthansa Technik to provide component support for its planned five Boeing 737-800s, the first of which was delivered in mid-January. The contract runs for an initial five years. The new CASA-AISA Maintenance Centre has opened at Madrid Barajas Airport. Operators at the airport, such as Aeronova, Swiftair and Tadair, previously had to transport their aircraft to the CASA facilities in Getafe for maintenance support. Services will include the leasing of hangar space, rental of equipment and tools, weighing of aircraft and general repair and maintenance. These activities are directed mainly at general aviation and executive customers, small businesses and cargo aircraft. Flight International's sister on-line news service, Air Transport Intelligence, reports that Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering has won its first contract covering a C-check on a Next Generation Boeing 737. The contract is with Shenzhen Airlines and is for a C-check on a 737-700 in March. Shannon Aerospace has begun its first overhaul of a Swissair A320 at its Shannon, Ireland facility. The Lufthansa Technik/SR Technics joint venture recently added a fifth production line to its capacity to handle increasing numbers of A320s, some of which are coming up for heavy overhaul. Auxiliary power unit (APU) and integrated drive generator/constant speed drive (CSD) overhaul specialist Triumph Air Repair (Europe) has signed a one-year agreement with Manila-based carrier Cebu Air to maintain the Honeywell GTCP85 Series APUs and Sundstrand CSDs on its McDonnell Douglas DC-9 fleet. The work will be carried out at the company's facilities in Lasham, UK. Pentacon, a leading distributor of fasteners, has signed a five-year, $15 million, supply agreement with Bombardier covering the support of regional jet manufacturing operations in Montreal.
