Icelandair Cargo is aiming to reduce its dependency on its home market following its agreement to acquire Rolls-Royce Trent 700-powered Airbus A330-200 Freighters from 2010. Icelandair's freight division is to take four A330-200Fs through Avion Aircraft Trading.

Icelandair Cargo will lease two of the A330s directly from Avion. But Icelandair Group's leasing subsidiary, Icelease, is to buy two of the twinjets for onward lease to Icelandair Cargo. The carrier, which currently flies Boeing 757-200Fs, will use the A330Fs to help it broaden its reach to China, India and the Gulf, and establish connections through a European hub to Iceland, Canada and the USA.
