Marconi Avionics of Rochester, UK, and Stirling Dynamics (SDL) of Bristol, UK, have signed a collaborative alliance.

The alliance brings together Marconi Avionics and Stirling Dynamics, a systems and consulting house. The alliance will leverage SDL's innovative research to produce reliable, affordable, active control stick products.

New generation systems resulting from the alliance will exploit technology to allow programmable stick systems to adapt to specific circumstances or pilot/operator requirements.

The Marconi/Stirling alliance has already allowed development of a linked active stick design (removing the need for mechanical linkage) with performance and affordability suitable for both civil aircraft and jet trainer applications.

The same design is also considered suitable for helicopter applications where a different response characteristic or 'feel' is appropriate to different parts of the flight envelope.

Marconi and Stirling Dynamics believe active stick technology will revolutionise civil and military flight control applications.
