German carrier Air Berlin's maintenance chief, Wolfgang Kurth, is quitting the company after a disagreement on strategy.

Kurth was named as the chief maintenance officer less than two years ago, as Air Berlin sought to consolidate engineering operations after it acquired carriers LTU and DBA.

While Air Berlin says Kurth played a "major part" in improving the efficiency of the engineering division, it states that he and the company's board have "differences of opinion" its strategic positioning and integration with Air Berlin.

As a result Kurth is leaving the company with immediate effect. Air Berlin chief Joachim Hunold will take responsibility for the maintenance division until a successor is appointed.
