Funk arrives in Malta

Air Malta has confirmed former Swissair executive Ernst Funk as chief executive, weeks after local media revealed the move.

Air Malta began efforts to fill the new post of chief executive in July. Until then, its most senior manager was group executive chairman Louis Grech, who will remain carrier head and chairman.

Former SAirGroup chairman Philippe Brugisser also applied for the position; but it is Funk who has become the first foreign chief executive of Air Malta since it was formed in 1973. He will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the airline.

Funk worked for Swissair and the Swissair Group for 41 years, gaining experience in a wide variety of management roles.
