Airbus Industrie got the show off to an unforgettable start yesterday with a stunning fly-past of its entire family of aircraft. Showgoers will speak for years of the sight of all eight products flying in formation to mark the inauguration of the show.

The unique display - there won't be another one at the show - was to mark a year of milestones for the European company.

It's the 30th anniversary of the launch of the company's pioneer product, the A300. This year also saw the 1,000th delivery from the A320 family of aircraft and the 2,000th delivery of all types.

Led by the A320, A321 and A319, there followed the A340 and A330 and the A300 and A310 in pairs. Bringing up the rear was the A300-600ST Beluga.

With eight aircraft and just two cockpits, the company says the flypast symbolises the ultimate in commonality available from its family.

Commonality in the fleet... there was nothing common about yesterday's flypast.
