Airbus has selected Goodrich for a $3 billion deal to supply wheels and carbon brakes for the A350 XWB family.
The announcement by Goodrich, however, leaves the implication that the contract for the A350's wheels and brakes is not exclusive.
"Goodrich is the first supplier selected to provide wheels and brakes for the A350 XWB," says the announcement issued today.
Goodrich's brakes for the A350 will feature the Duracarb carbon heat sink material that has been applied on a wide range of airliners, including the A320, Boeing 737 and 787 and Embraer ERJ145.
The Duracarb brand has "demonstrated 35% greater break life than competing carbon braking materials," Goodrich says.
The A350 programme previously contracted with Goodrich to supply nacelle and thrust reverser systems and the air data system.
"As one of Airbus' largest suppliers, we look forward to participating in the success of this important new aircraft," says Jack Carmola, segment president of Goodrich's actuation and landing systems.
