Transbrasil and TAP Air Portugal began codesharing on services between Lisbon and Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Fortaleza on 30 June. TAP intends to expand in Brazil via Transbrasil's domestic network, as part of an agreement signed in 1997. Swissair was to begin codesharing with THY Turkish Airlines, on 1 August, between Ankara and Zurich. The Swiss carrier will also begin codesharing with JAL between Tokyo and Zurich and Osaka and Zurich on 25 October. TWA will begin codesharing with Royal Air Maroc between Casablanca and Boston, Chicago, Washington/ Ronald Reagan, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, St Louis and New York/JFK on October 25, subject to government approval. British Midland will begin a codeshare with Virgin Atlantic on flights between London/ Heathrow and Warsaw on 17 August. British Midland and Lufthansa will begin codesharing on flights between Manchester and Düsseldorf on 5 September. Lufthansa launched a codeshare with Air New Zealand between Frankfurt and Christchurch via Singapore on 20 July. Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines launched a codeshare between Frankfurt and Singapore and Frankfurt and New York on 1 July. Cathay Pacific will commence a daily service from Hong Kong to San Francisco on 1 December, subject to US government approval. American Airways was to have launched a daily flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Manchester on 6 July. British Airways is launching a daily service from London/ Gatwick to Denver on 1 September. After a 14 month break, the UK carrier resumed flights to Nigeria on 29 July, with a five times weekly service. BA will take over Qantas' Kuala Lumpur-Sydney service on 25 October and will begin codesharing with LOT Polish Airlines on eight weekly flights between Manchester and Warsaw, Gatwick and Gdansk on 10 August. LanChile and Qantas have signed a codeshare agreement for four times weekly services between Santiago and Sydney via Tahiti, Easter Island, and Papeete, starting on 25 October. Continental Airlines has received preliminary approval to commence daily flights between Cleveland and London on 19 February, 1999. GBAirways is set to begin a four times weekly service from London/Gatwick to Seville on 5 November. Love Air has become a Régional Airlines franchise for services between Southampton and Caen via Le Havre, and between Birmingham and Rouen via Le Havre. Services will be twice daily on weekdays from 14 September. Air Connexion will commence a four times daily service from Toronto to Kingston on 13 September. From 20 September it will launch a seven times weekly service from Toronto to Syracuse. Austrian Airlines is to cease operating a codeshare with Singapore Airlines between Vienna and Singapore on 24 October. Emirates launched a twice weekly service from Dubai to Peshwar on 2 July.
