United Airlines was due to start installing upgraded Airshow units on its wide-body fleet late last month. The moving-map display system was switched off for several months last year after irregular operation, believed to be heat related. The problem was due to the CD drive running continuously. A solution involves the drive being used for downloading data only. Meanwhile, United will complete the in-flight entertainment product upgrade on its international fleet by the end of the year. Seven Boeing 747-400s remain to be fitted with Sextant In-Flight Systems d2000 hardware and Boeing 777B installations will be completed by April, when replacement of the GEC-Marconi InFlight Systems on the 777As will start.
