Alteon Training (Hall C, stand 410) signed a deal yesterday at Asian Aerospace with Qantas to combine forces in developing and marketing their Australian flight training services.
Boeing subsidiary Alteon and Qantas will share instructors and co-market their facilities and services at their Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane training centres.
This will enable the companies to offer new services to their customers – for example, Alteon currently has no Boeing 747 simulation capability in Australia, but can now make use of Qantas’s simulators.
Alteon president Pat Gaines said at the signing: “This is a strategic alliance to provide training solutions. It will enhance our abilities in the region with the operational experience Qantas brings to the table.”
Capt David Coates said: “[The deal] means we are able to provide a full service and gives us a greater capability to address the emerging pilot shortage in the Asia Pacific region.”
Alteon also announced yesterday that it is to launch a beta test of the multi-crew pilot licensing (MPL) programme.
It will present the proposed training syllabus to industry partners in April 2006 and finalise the programme by June. The first MPL course will take place in Brisbane, beginning in November and producing its first batch of qualified pilots by January 2008.
