All Nippon Airways (ANA) has selected Panasonic Avionics' eX2 audio/video on demand in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for its Boeing 767-300ER and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The deal is part of a larger plan at ANA to launch new products and services under the original brand concept "Inspiration of Japan" starting from February 2010 on its 777-300ER aircraft.
The carrier says it will offer 23in wide IFE screens in first class, 17in in business class, 12in in premium economy and 10.6in in economy class. And all passengers will be able to enjoy their own videos, photos and music by connecting their Apple iPod right from their seat.
"Our hope, and goal, is that our customers take great pleasure in the luxury, comfort and excellence of our products and services, being transported to inspirational moments and places, both literal and figurative," says ANA executive vice-president-products and service strategy Shinya Katanozaka,
Specific terms of the deal between Panasonic and ANA have not been disclosed. According to Flightglobal's ACAS database, ANA holds orders for four 767-300ERs and four 777-300ERs. It's current fleet includes 16 of the former and 13 of the latter.
"We have had a long and successful partnership with All Nippon Airways and are pleased to earn their repeat business," says Panasonic Avionics president and chief operating officer Yasu Enokido.
Panasonic is supplying the IFE to ANA's Boeing 787 twinjets.
