Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has revealed it is planning to deploy its first Boeing 787 on routes to China, in time for the Beijing Olympics.

Star Alliance member ANA launched the 787 programme with its order for 30 787-3s and 20 787-8s in April 2004.

In comments timed to coincide with the roll-out of the first 787 on 8 July, ANA disclosed that the type will initially be deployed on services between Japan and China.

ANA says: “The delivery of the first aircraft, a 787-8, to ANA is scheduled for May 2008, and it will enter service shortly afterwards. ANA is planning to fly its first 787 on routes to China, in time for the Beijing Olympics.”

Speaking during the roll-out event at Boeing’s Everett factory near Seattle, ANA president and CEO Mineo Yamamoto said: “I am truly proud and moved to know that this epoch-making aircraft will be delivered first to ANA and the people of Japan.”
