Shake-up at JetBlue

JetBlue Airways has promoted John Harvey, previously senior vice-president of corporate finance and treasurer, to the post of executive vice-president and chief financial officer. Harvey, who joined in 1999 and has been responsible for capital raising, including financing almost every one of JetBlue’s aircraft purchases, will continue to serve as treasurer until a successor is found.

John Owen, who had been executive vice-president and chief financial officer since the company was formed in 1998, has been appointed to a new position, executive vice-president supply chain and information technology. He will have responsibility for both information technology and JetBlue’s Live TV subsidiary as well as supply-chain logistics.

The airline is in the middle of a recovery programme dubbed “Return to Profitability” that focuses on increasing revenue after two consecutive quarters of losses. As part of this programme, it has added executives to its revenue management team, which it relocated to its New York headquarters near its JFK International airport base.

Harvey, who established the airline’s fuel-hedging programme, had left JetBlue in 2003 for a private aviation advisory firm, SkyWorks Capital, but returned within a year. In March of this year, JetBlue gave Harvey oversight of a new position, vice-president for fuel, in a shake-up that included new positions and staff in IT and in supply chain.
