Aviation Performance Systems is seeking Level D status under the Do178B software standard for its Runway Performance computer software.

The system can be run on desktop personal computers, or hand-held devices - such as the Psion 3 or 5 series - or new hand-held devices running Microsoft Windows CE.

The software developed by the UK company provides a fast and convenient means of calculating maximum permissible gross take-off and landing weights for transport aircraft, by emulating the flight manual.

A major advantage is that a pilot can edit the input parameters, so that, if wind direction or outside-air temperature changes, for example, revised figures can quickly be obtained.

Similarly, for calculations such as maximum altitude with one-engine-inoperable, updates can also be obtained quickly.
