Asiana Airlines is considering ordering new ultra-large and mid-size widebody aircraft and says that it expects to make a decision on models by year-end.
The South Korean carrier says no formal requests for proposals have yet been issued to manufacturers, but adds that "we have a team looking at aircraft" and a decision is expected "by the end of this year".
The airline has been considering ordering new aircraft for some time and originally planned to make a decision last year.
Chief executive Chan Bup Park told reporters recently that the carrier is considering ordering the Airbus A380 or Boeing 747-8, as well as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, to replace older Boeing 767, 777 and 747-400 aircraft in its fleet.
"We are also looking at adding more [Airbus] A330s and 777s," the carrier adds.
