South Korea's Asiana Airlines posted a second quarter 2009 net profit of 47.1 billion Korean won ($38 million) between April-June, up from a 19.2 billion won loss a year earlier.
The increase in net profit stemmed from an exceptional item, the sale of an IT unit, says an Asiana spokesman. Otherwise, the airline suffered from weak passenger demand during the quarter, although he did not provide passenger load factor figures.
Second quarter revenue was 848 billion won, down 15% from 1.04 trillion won in the second quarter of 2008.
