An Aerosonde Mk4 unmanned air vehicle has flown for 38h 48min, setting what the company claims is an unofficial endurance record for UAVs. The aircraft took off from the Aerosonde test facility in western Victoria, Australia on the morning of 2 May and landed the following evening. Modifications to the UAV to enable the attempt included tuning the engine, weight reduction and aerodynamic efficiency improvements. The official UAV endurance record is 30h 24min and is held by the Northrop Grumman RQ-4A Global Hawk.
