Avio, the Carlyle/Finmeccanica-controlled Italian aeroengine manufacturer, has signed a three-year co-operation deal with Russian state-owned agency Rosoboronexport, which represents Russian research centres CIAM and VIAM. The €3 million ($3.57 million) contract covers research in aerodynamics and thermal loads, and into the life and mechanical properties of metals when subjected to extreme temperatures reached in aeroengines.
The aim is to develop knowledge of advanced materials to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. The first spin-offs from the research are expected to be available to the partners by 2007.
