Bombardier Challenger 604 business aircraft will feature upgraded Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 avionics from early 2001. The upgraded avionics will be installed as standard on new Challenger 604s and are retrofittable for aircraft in service.

The standard upgrades include automatic display of take-off and approach and landing speeds, missed approach speeds, weight limits, runway lengths and climb gradients. It will also include automatic display of thrust settings for take-off, climb, cruise and go-around.

In addition, from 2001, the flight management system (FMS) on new Challenger 604s will blend observed wind and entered wind to enhance prediction of time and fuel requirements and improve mission planning. The FMS will also provide improved information required for North Atlantic waypoint reporting, including meteorological data.

Several optional features aimed at improving situational awareness and performance will be available at the same time, says Bombardier. These include a three-dimensional profile map display providing a geographical presentation of a combined vertical and lateral profile along the flight plan. Long-range and high-speed cruise speeds will be available, computed by the FMS based on flight manual data to allow maximum range flying or highest-speed flying.
