BAE SYSTEMS Pre-tax profits rose more than one-fifth to nearly £1.5 billion ($2.9 billion) on sales up 14% to £15.7 billion as strong US growth complemented progress in defence support deals for Tornado and other air platforms in its original home market, the UK. In Saudi Arabia, Tornado support and fleet modernisation, and a 72-aircraft Typhoon deal, also helped. Profitable 2008 growth is forecast in electronic warfare, defence and aerospace electronics.
