China's aviation regulator has temporarily barred chartered cargo flights from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) following last month's crash of an Ilyushin Il-76 cargo aircraft from the state of Azerbaijan. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) introduced the temporary ban on 29 May. The measure affects about 10 airlines from the CIS including some Russian carriers, says a CAAC official, who declines to explain the reason behind the ban or say when affected airlines may be allowed to resume China services.
