Boeing hopes to receive a contract shortly to begin development of an EA-18 derivative of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet after the US services' electronic-attack strategy passed a critical hurdle. US Department of Defense acquisition chief Pete Aldridge has cleared work to continue on a plan for the US Navy to replace its Northrop Grumman EA-6Bs as soon as possible with around 90 electronic-attack EA-18s, while the US Marine Corps continues operating EA-6Bs and the US Air Force equips Boeing B-52s and other platforms with jammers.
